Look for legit moneyline upset plays

By legit, we mean teams that have a real shot to win their wild card matchups. New England already beat Buffalo, as an example, so the Patriots have a chance to upset the Bills on Saturday night.

On Sunday afternoon, San Francisco can for sure upset the Dallas Cowboys. The Arizona Cardinals beat the Rams already this season. The Cards will have a shot to win the rubber match on Monday night.

On paper, Philadelphia doesn’t look to have much chance against Tampa Bay. Pittsburgh doesn’t look like they’ve got a shot to upset the Chiefs. In the case of the Steelers, though, handicap every angle.

The Steelers gave up a ridiculous amount of rushing yards versus the Ravens and still beat Baltimore 16-13. Somehow, someway, Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger get it done.

When in doubt, take the points

Steelers at Chiefs is a great example of this piece of advice. Kansas City blasted Pittsburgh 36-10 during the regular season.

But Pittsburgh player T.J. Watt is much healthier and rookie running back Najee Harris has put it together. The Steelers also have motivation and Mike Tomlin is one of the best, if not the best, coach in the league.

So taking the points on Pittsburgh makes sense unless you really believe the Chiefs again blow out the Steelers.

Unders often hit during the playoffs

Possessions become a big deal during the playoffs. Teams can get into shootouts, but defensive game plans often rule.

Not only that, but this weekend, defenses will fear opposing quarterbacks. Nobody wants to give the opposing quarterback more possessions. Even Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts can take over a game because he averages 5.6 yards a carry and can throw the ball to DeVonta Smith.

If you have a good feeling a contest will hit over, go with your gut. But if you don’t know for sure, lean towards playing unders.

If you can’t figure a game out, don’t bet on it

The best way to handicap any NFL Playoff game is to envision what should happen, much like thinking about how a horse race might unfold. In the case of Patriots versus Buffalo, we know Bill Belichick is going to lean on his rushing attack to try and keep the ball from Josh Allen.

So the decision becomes easy. Will the third game between the Patriots and Bills turn out like the first where New England won even though Mac Jones threw just 3 passes? Or will it turn out like the second where Josh Allen destroyed New England’s defense?

In the case of 49ers versus Cowboys, it’s somewhat cloudier. Envisioning what should happen in this game is tough because San Francisco could decide to turn it into a shootout. Or Kyle Shanahan and his staff may want to slow it down to keep the ball from Dak Prescott.

If you don’t have a good idea of how a game might go, consider skipping the game and doubling your per game unit on the matchup you really like.

NFC Wild Card Round

(7) Philadelphia Eagles @ (2) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-7)

The Eagles surprised many this season, as they weren’t expected to make the playoffs this season. First year head coach Nick Sirianni has gotten the most out of his Eagles squad. The mobility of quarterback Jalen Hurts could give the Bucs defense a lot of issues.

Tom Brady continues to win his battle with Father Time. The 44-year old had another stellar season. He won’t have as many offensive weapons as he did last season, but Brady is used to that. Tampa’s defense is great at stopping the run, and they know what it takes to win a Super Bowl.

Quick Trends:

  • Over is 4-0 in Buccaneers last 4 vs. a team with a winning record.

  • Over is 5-1 in Buccaneers last 6 games in January

  • Over is 4-1 in Eagles last 5 games overall.

  • Over is 4-1 in Eagles last 5 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game.

(6)San Francisco 49ers @ (3) Dallas Cowboys (-3)

Although it was many years ago, these two were the NFC teams of the ‘90s and they battled many times in the playoffs. This old rivalry will be renewed next weekend, as they will meet in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

San Francisco qualified for the playoffs by way of their come-from-behind victory over the Rams on Sunday. The Dallas Cowboys finished 12-5 and won the NFC East. Dallas has a dynamic offense, and their defense played much better than expected this season.

Quick Trends:

  • Cowboys are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game.

  • 49ers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 playoff road games.

  • 49ers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 playoff games as an underdog.

  • Cowboys are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a favorite.

(5) Arizona Cardinals @ (4) Los Angeles Rams (-4)

These two will meet at the site of this year’s Super Bowl. The Rams won the NFC West this season but ended their season on a sour note as the Niners came from behind to beat them. The Rams defense will need to play better if they hope to continue on in the playoffs.

Arizona had the best record in the league for much of the season but ended the season with some tough losses, including one to Seattle on Sunday that cost them the division title. Arizona’s offense is scary, but they’ll need to play better defense as well.

Quick Trends:

  • Rams are 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 games following a straight up loss.

  • Rams are 28-13-1 ATS in their last 42 vs. NFC.

  • Cardinals are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

  • Cardinals are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 Monday games.

AFC Wild Card Round

(7) Pittsburgh Steelers @ (2) Kansas City Chiefs (-13)

After beating the Ravens in the afternoon, and by way of the Raiders overtime victory over the Chargers, the Pittsburgh Steelers snuck into the playoffs. With an aging Ben Roethlisberger leading their offense, points have been hard to come by for the Steelers. However, their defense has been keeping them in and helping them win the close ones.

As for the Chiefs, we all know that they can score points. It’s going to come down to whether or not their defense plays like they did last postseason, or how they played to start this season.

Quick Trends:

  • Under is 4-1 in Steelers last 5 games on grass.

  • Under is 4-1 in Steelers last 5 vs. AFC.

  • Under is 7-2-1 in Steelers last 10 games after allowing less than 15 points in their previous game.

  • Under is 4-1 in Chiefs last 5 Wildcard games.

  • Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Kansas City.

(6) New England Patriots @ (3) Buffalo Bills (-4)

These two AFC East rivals are no strangers. This will be the rubber game in the series. We’ll see if Bill Belichick has some tricks up his sleeve for the Buffalo Bills.

Josh Allen is one of the most dynamic players in the league. He led the Bills to the AFC title game last season, and now he wants to make it to the next stage. He has the team to get him there.

Quick Trends:

  • Bills are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall.

  • Bills are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 vs. AFC East.

  • Bills are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 350 total yards in their previous game.

(5) Las Vegas Raiders @ (4) Cincinnati Bengals (-6)

A last-second overtime field goal earned the Raiders the #6 seed, and their reward, a trip to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals. Las Vegas has overcome a lot of issues this season to get to the playoffs.

Joe Burrow and the Bengals have one of the best offenses in the league. They’ve been on a hot streak. We’ll see if the Raiders defense has enough to slow them down.

Quick Trends:

  • Raiders are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games after accumulating more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game.

  • Raiders are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game.

  • Raiders are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog.

Buffalo Bills vs New England Patriots: Five Questions with ...

New England at Buffalo

Bills Mafia have a hit out on the New England Belichicks.

The Bills and Patriots are set to meet in the playoffs for the first time since Dec. 28, 1963, back when Freddie Lupo was slurping cold spaghetti with Nino Magaddino in a disheveled social club on Grant st.

New England has dominated the all-times series with Buffalo, posting a 77-46-1 record. In Buffalo, the Patriots are 38-23-1 and have gone 31-17 at the Bills' current venue of Highmark Stadium. Buffalo ended New England's 11-year reign as AFC East champions one year ago as the Patriots finished 7-9 in their first season. Buffalo ended the regular season with 4 consecutive victories while New England limped to the finish line with three losses in its final four contests. Bills are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 vs. AFC East.

Last season, hunting its first AFC East title since Lennie Calzone ran the books, Buffalo got a close win over Indianapolis in the wild-card round then had a statement victory against Baltimore in the divisional round but ultimately fell short at Kansas City in the AFC Championship Game.

On Dec. 6, New England used an unorthodox and weather-altered game plan to win at Buffalo 14-10 in snowy and windy conditions. Jones attempted a franchise-record-low three passes and totaled 19 yards as Damien Harris' 111 rushing yards paced the Patriots' powerful run game to a victory. In the rematch on Dec. 26 in Foxborough, Mass., Allen got his revenge after completing 30 of 47 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns in Buffalo's 33-21 triumph. With their receiving corps depleted, lesser known wideout Isaiah McKenzie had a breakout performance for the Bills with 11 catches for 125 yards and a touchdown.

Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins was added to the Wednesday injury report with an ankle injury. New England tackle Isaiah Wynn (hip/ankle) did not practice Wednesday after being listed as a limited participant on Tuesday. Bills wideout Cole Beasley was listed as a limited participant at Wednesday's practice due to what the team called veteran rest.

The Patriots are not what they were in the Brady days and Bills Mafia will whack them in a easy victory.
